National Instruments Lookout 5.1 Supports Asian Language Localization and OPC 2.0

National Instruments Lookout 5.1 Supports Asian Language Localization and OPC 2.0
NEWS RELEASE -- June 17, 2003 -- National Instruments today announced Lookout 5.1, the latest version of the company's easy-to-use HMI/SCADA software that now features enhanced debugging tools for tracing data and OPC 2.0-compatibility. In addition, Lookout now supports dual-byte characters so users can localize the software's user interface in Asian and Eastern European languages.

Lookout 5.1 is now compliant with devices that use version 2.0 of the industry-standard OPC specification so users can easily connect to a wide variety of third-party PLCs, industrial buses, other OPC Server software systems and NI hardware such as Compact FieldPoint distributed I/O. With the new Tracer Object event logging debugging tool, Lookout users can monitor and record all communication between their application and these peripherals, significantly accelerating the debugging process by helping the user easily pinpoint and correct communication errors. A new functions browser also helps minimize programming errors by correcting syntax and pulling functions from preset, self-populated fields.

In response to customer demand, NI has developed a new device driver for Hitachi PLCs, adding to the nearly 100 existing Lookout drivers for leading third-party I/O. This helps users easily integrate Lookout with the most popular industrial automation instruments and illustrates the company's commitment to the large, installed Lookout user base.

NI Lookout delivers unparalleled power and ease of use for manufacturing and process control operations by eliminating programming, scripting and separate compiling. With drag-and-drop application development, users save time and money on overall project costs. Lookout is used in a variety of industrial applications, from developing a monitoring system for brewing beer in Texas to managing an entire city's water supply in Louisiana to controlling a power plant in Hungary.
