EDN Names National Instruments 2.7 GHz RF Signal Analyzer and NI Switch Executive Among Top Products of 2002

List Highlights Performance and Cost Savings of Virtual Instrumentation

NEWS RELEASE -- Jan. 14, 2003 -- Editors of EDN magazine, one of the top publications for design engineers worldwide, have selected National Instruments PXI-5660 RF signal analyzer and NI Switch Executive software among their Top 100 Products of 2002.

"The RF signal analyzer and NI Switch Executive demonstrate the unique capabilities of the industry-standard PXI platform and open virtual instrumentation software," said John Graff, NI vice president of marketing and customer operations. "We are pleased that editors and readers of EDN, our customers and design engineers around the world recognize how NI computer-based software and hardware can solve the most challenging measurement applications throughout the entire product design and manufacturing process."

EDN editors noted the NI PXI-5660, a modular, 2.7 GHz RF signal analyzer, "breaks many of the rules for instruments of this type," offering tremendous advances in throughput and size. The RF signal analyzer is a powerful combination of spectral measurement software and a broadband 2.7 GHz RF digitizer with greater than 80 dB dynamic range that performs RF measurements up to 200 times faster than before. The NI PXI-5660 delivers the full range of standard RF power, frequency, spectral and vector measurements and offers engineers the freedom to define unique applications using the advanced signal processing, visualization and Internet capabilities of LabVIEW.

The NI PXI-5660 RF signal analyzer, which NI introduced in August 2002, is ideal for demanding RF production environments and for applications such as consumer electronics or avionics test that require many different types of measurements. Engineers can tightly integrate the RF signal analyzer with other NI or third-party PXI products, such as RF switches, DMMs, signal sources and digitizers.

EDN editors also chose the versatile NI Switch Executive as one of its Top 100 Products of 2002. NI Switch Executive is the market's first open switch management software because it supports NI switching hardware as well as IVI compliant switching devices from other vendors. The open NI Switch Executive switch management software also seamlessly integrates with NI LabVIEW as well as programming languages such as Visual Basic and C/C++. Released in March 2002, NI Switch Executive complements industry-standard test management software, such as NI TestStand, to create a complete, easy-to-use test management solution that increases productivity throughout the product design and manufacturing process.

NI Switch Executive reduces the cost of switch configuration and maintenance and improves test performance because engineers can use it to interactively configure complex switching routines such as testing telecommunications systems with hundreds of test points, by combining multiple switch connections into a single configuration. With traditional tools, engineers manually program the connect and disconnect actions of each switching operation.

Since 1993, EDN has published its list of Top 100 Products at the end of each year to showcase those products that generate the most excitement among its readers.
